Persian Collection Hampton Park

I was recently lucky enough to complete a work placement at the Hampton Park Library.  The part I enjoyed most, by far, was meeting community members.  In all the roles, jobs or experiences that I have had, I have always enjoyed being a part of the community.  I want to meet you, hear your story and somehow brighten your day.  Sometimes I share my puns and everyone laughs.  The last part of may not be true.

I was also the lucky ducky who was able to create some display signage for the new Persian collection.  It was like my birthday but with glue sticks and sequins, so it was really WAY better than my birthday.

Hampton Park welcomes many migrants and people fleeing upheaval in Afghanistan and the surrounding countries.  Libraries are one of the few safe and free community meeting places for all people to gather, but particularly people who are new and beginning the process of building their personal community.  All are welcome at the library and all are welcome to access the resources at the library like the internet, english conversation classes, children's story time and of course library items.  Those library items aren't all that useful however if they aren't in a language you understand.  Enter the Persian Collection.

The Persian Collection features adult and child titles in Farsi, which as I understand is a language close enough to be accessible to Dari speakers, but one in which books can be easily purchased.  My understanding is that Dari is spoken by many of the people from Afghanistan.

I am familiar with moving to a new country but I never had the enormous challenge of learning a new language in a new country.  I hope that the Persian Collection is comforting and helpful.
