4wd'ing

My lovely husband has just been picked up for his playdate.

He is off 4wd'ing. He was really really excited to go and while I was happy for him I was secretly thinking YAWN! Previously I imagined these jaunts to be something like a jcrew advert combined with brownie camp: stylish fun. I was so wrong. After he returned from the first trip to be filmed and having watched said video - there is no stylish fun. They drive around in the bushes looking for a steep hill and then they all try to drive up this one hill all day long. When it gets really interesting, the boys all get out of their trucks and stand around the hill giggling while one of them makes another attempt to get up the hill.

In any case, if anyone wants to do (is do the right verb? play? go?) some outdoor adventuring like the photo below, let me know!

Little b and I are off to my mom's today. She lives in the Melbourne 'mountains' and has recently moved from one mountain suburb to another and down the street from her new house there is the most awesome playground that I have ever seen. I will put up a photo later - assuming that all goes well!

Also, if anyone needs some new music - I am listening and enjoying The Weepies. I am the person (in my opinion only) that is most prone to sad dramatic music dragging me down, so be assured there is no weepy-ness to the music. I am listening right this very moment to World Spins Madly On.

Also Also, does anyone watch movies on an iphone. We are going to be stuck in an airplane for 18 hours soon and we (I!) am getting a bit worried about how I am going to occupy my almost-two-year-old son/sea-monkey/hyena. He is entranced by Justine Clarke music videos and that is my starting point for his in-flight entertainment. I have googled away, looking for some strategies and most seem to be of the opinion that the best way to cope is to accept that you are going to piss people off with your loud child and to take toys/books/movies and make the best of it. Easier said that done I think.

We are off to the playground for our playdate!

  1. I am game for a J Crew-esque expedition.

Have you considered spiking your son's milk with brandy? It would send him to sleep and voila... no crying and annoying angry passengers. Just a thought. OR you could download some episodes of buffy the vampire slayer or third watch and plop him down in from of the ipod. I'm sure he will find them just as enthralling as we used to (/still do?).

I just discovered a band called Vampire Weekend (what is it with my Vampire fascination?). Really lovely music. I think you would like them. Animal Collective is also fantastic.

    Can't wait to see you!!
